Sudha

Sudha is the Sanskrit word for nectar, specifically amrita, the drink of the gods that grants immortality, churned from the milky ocean in the great cosmological myth. As a name it distills that image into two syllables, SOO-dha, the soft aspirate at the end like a small exhalation. Rendered सुधा, it has been a common girl's name across North and South India through much of the twentieth century, and carries a warm, slightly classical air in younger Indian contexts today. Rare in English-speaking registers, it brings its origin intact. Sudha is sweetness rendered as essence.
