Scandinavian names
Scandinavian names are snow-bright and stone-strong. They carry saga echoes, Viking bones, and — somehow — a softness too, the kind that comes from northern light and long winters. Names like Astrid, Sigrid, Magnus, Bjorn, Freya, and Ingrid have been used in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland for over a thousand years, and the modern American interest in them has been driven partly by the broader Nordic cultural moment (Scandinavian crime fiction, design, food) and partly by the simple structural appeal of the names themselves. Many work cleanly across English-speaking contexts; others retain just enough Scandinavian texture to feel slightly foreign in the best way. The full Scandinavian-origin library is below.
