Jireh arrives with a clear address: Genesis 22, the mountain where Abraham built an altar and gave the place a name, Yahweh Yireh, the Lord will provide. For most of recorded history it was a theological phrase rather than a personal name — a covenant word, not a cradle one. Then contemporary worship music changed that. Elevation Worship's 2021 recording spread the word into living rooms and church halls and, eventually, birth announcements.
At 938 and climbing, Jireh reads devotional without feeling heavy. Two syllables with a rising ee at the close, it has the shape of a lyric line and the sound of a door opening. In American use it's unisex, which suits its tone — a name of offering rather than of gender. It pairs well with classic middle names that give it weight without competing: Jireh Mae, Jireh James.
