Hennadiy

Hennadiy is the Ukrainian form of the Greek Gennadios, from gennadas, "noble, generous." The name entered Slavic tradition through early Byzantine saints and has held a quiet presence in Ukrainian registries ever since. Three syllables with that characteristic Ukrainian h opening (where Russian uses a harder g), the double n lending the middle a small drumbeat. The affectionate form Hena or Genya keeps it softer in family use. Rare in English-speaking countries, uncommon even in contemporary Ukraine where it reads slightly mid-twentieth-century.
