An archangel appears in a Galilean room and announces that the world is about to change — of all the messengers in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, Gabriel is the one entrusted with the biggest news. He appears to Daniel in the Hebrew Bible to interpret a vision; he announces the births of John the Baptist and Jesus in the gospel of Luke; in the Quran (where he is called Jibril) he dictates the entire revelation to Muhammad over a period of twenty-three years.
