Cameron

From the Scottish Gaelic cam sròn, literally crooked nose, the nickname of a Highland chieftain that became the rallying surname of Clan Cameron, who charged at Culloden in 1746 behind Bonnie Prince Charlie. The name crossed the Atlantic, made its way onto tartan-lined nurseries, and in the 1980s slid casually into unisex use. Cameron Crowe wrote Almost Famous; Cameron Diaz modeled and acted; James Cameron flooded the Titanic and colonized Pandora. The name currently ranks 66 and is given to about one in 356 American babies. Three syllables that sound a little like rolling hills; one highland insult that has entirely forgotten itself.
