Behzad

Beh in Persian means good, better, excellent. Zad means born. The compound Behzad reads simply as well-born, born right, a name that is its own blessing. Its most celebrated namesake is Kamal ud-Din Behzad, the Timurid court painter of the late fifteenth century whose miniatures — packed with crowd scenes, hunts, and architectural detail so fine it requires a magnifying glass — set a standard for Persian manuscript art that later painters spent centuries measuring themselves against.

Two clean syllables ending on a firm consonant, the name has an artisan's composure. It doesn't announce itself. Widely used across Iran and the Persian-speaking world, it remains uncommon in English registers, where it reads as quietly cultured — the name of someone whose interests run to things made slowly and well. Behzad belongs to the quieter end of the classical Persian canon, a name of pedigree rather than flourish, and that understatement is its whole appeal.
