Andrew

The first disciple called, a Galilean fisherman dropping his nets at the shore; the patron saint of Scotland whose X-shaped cross hangs over Edinburgh on the saltire flag. Andrew descends from the Greek Andreas, meaning manly or courageous, and it has been worn by American presidents (Jackson, Johnson) and Scottish kings, by the tunesmith Andrew Lloyd Webber and the essayist Andrew Sullivan. It was a top-ten name through the 1990s and early 2000s and has been gently drifting down ever since. It currently ranks 68 and is given to about one in 359 boys.
